The Qualities of Legibility is a book that compares the measurement difference in legibility for alphabetical script and pictograph script. It revealed that the quality of legibility meant differently - the alphabetical language emphasis on efficiency while the pictograph language emphasis on clarity.

I wrote and designed the book as my master’s degree thesis. I deliberately applied the two distinctive fonts–Helvetica and Garamond to communicate the core idea of my writing. It is a challenge to make these two fonts coexist harmoniously, I achieved it by spending a great deal of time tweaking the nuance - setting a consistent grayscale with two types. I’m very proud that the book design turned out to be very legible and elegant at the same time.
